A Survey of Future Broadband Multimedia Satellite Systems, Issues and Trends
نویسنده
چکیده
The demand for advanced information services is growing in terms of both the number of users and the services to be supported. Voice and low-rate data services are insufficient for users in a world where high-speed World Wide Web access is taken granted. The trend is toward global information networks offering flexible multimedia information services to users on demand, anywhere, anytime. Potential services include video on demand, interactive video, fast Internet access, telemedicine, tele-education, and large file transfer. The need to support bandwidthintensive multimedia services places new and challenging demands on satellite systems and networks. Flexibility, efficiency, mobility, and the ability to guarantee end-to-end quality of service are at a premium.

The next generation global communication network infrastructure is designed to be all IP based supporting various heterogeneous core and access technologies for broadband and mobile user applications. In this paper, we discuss the trends of broadband satellite communication networks to meet the emerging aeronautical and fast train applications, and mobile users in providing ubiquitous global co...
متن کاملBroadband Satellite Multimedia (BSM) Interworking with Performance Enhancing Proxies
Satellites had been successful in the past due to their wide area coverage and speedy deployment of new services especially in remote regions of Europe and the rest of the world. The future development of broadband satellite systems providing services based on the Internet Protocol (IP) needs to be stimulated by means of common standards. This paper presents the ETSI BSM PEP architecture which ...
متن کاملInterconnection of Broadband Islands via Satellite - Experiments on the Race Ii Catalyst Project
This paper presents the performance studies of ATM via satellite based on experiments implemented by the RACE II CATALYST project R2074. The purpose of the project was to develop an ATM satellite link for the future B-ISDN services, particularly for the interconnections of the ATM testbeds which are in the form of broadband islands. Then initial ATM based B-ISDN can be introduced by interconnec...
متن کاملPerspectives Of Adopting Inteference Mitigation Techniques In The Context Of Broadband Multimedia Satellite Systems
This paper presents the initial results of a study activity intended to assess possible interference mitigation techniques applicable to broadband multimedia satellite systems. A multi-star network architecture based on a multi-beam transparent satellite is considered, and application of interference mitigation to both Forward Link and Reverse Link is discussed. Proposed techniques are however ...
